Nahid Wants To Fulfill Promises, Prioritizing Justice For Asif's Murder.
Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, were sworn in as advisors to the interim government today, Thursday, at the Darbar Hall of the Bangabhaban.
Nahid Islam, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who took the oath as an advisor to the interim government, stated that they are committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people during the mass uprising. Another coordinator, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, emphasized that ensuring justice for those who were killed in the student movement will be a top priority.
Today, Thursday, a new interim government of Bangladesh was formed with Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the Chief Advisor. This government consists of 17 members, including the Chief Advisor. After 9 PM, President Md. Shahabuddin administered the oath to the Chief Advisor and 13 other advisors (three were unable to attend due to being outside Dhaka) in the Durbar Hall of the Bangabhaban. The President first administered the oath to the Chief Advisor, followed by the other advisors.
Among the 13 sworn-in advisors are Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the two coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. In an immediate reaction after the oath-taking ceremony at the Bangabhaban, Nahid Islam told Prothom Alo, "We have come to the government to fulfill the promises for which hundreds of our brothers and sisters were injured or killed during this mass uprising. We will strive to fulfill these promises as quickly as possible."
Nahid Islam highlighted that the interim government has been formed with a mix of experience and youth, stating, "The youth will be present both in the government and on the streets."
Another advisor, Asif Mahmud, stated, "Our first priority will be to ensure justice for those who killed the martyrs. Currently, there is almost no law and order in the country. Therefore, we will take responsibility for law enforcement and ensure that the citizens of this country can live in peace."
